Sewing

Sewing or Stitching is the fastening of cloth, leather, furs or other flexible materials, using needle and thread. Its use is nearly universal among human populations and dates back to Paleolithic times (30,000 BCE). Sewing precludes the weaving of cloth.

Sewing is used primarily to produce clothing and household furnishings such as curtains, bedclothes, upholstery, and table linens. Most sewing in the industrial world is done by machines. Pieces of a garment are often first tacked together. The machine has a complex set of gears and arms that pierces thread through the layers of the cloth and semi-securely interlocks the thread.

Learn To Sew with Simplicity

Some people sew clothes for themselves and their families. More often home sewers sew to repair clothes, such as mending a torn seam or replacing a loose button. “Plain” sewing is done for functional reasons: making or mending clothing or household linens. “Fancy” sewing is primarily decorative, including techniques such as shirring, smocking, embroidery, or quilting.

Sewing is the foundation for many needle arts and crafts, such as applique, canvas work, and patchwork. Sewing combines 2 favourite things which are practicality and beauty.

Sometimes, it is not about saving a few pennies buying your own fabrics and making it your own; and it is about the fun stuff too. Creating something special, an original that nobody will have. Then, there are times where baby gifts, party gifts, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts that will all add up over the year. As well as the need for new cushions, quilts, bags and other treats that make our surroundings look a little prettier.

Nowadays, the idea of recycling fabric is not new where there were times when our grandmothers routinely cut up old clothes to make quilts and snipped pretty buttons from worn out dresses to be reused. However, at some point we lost the desire or the need to recycle and instead threw out and bought the new one.

Based on the constant awareness campaign to remind us that recycling and reusing is an importatnt part of our past and hopefully of our future too ! Hence, producing beautifully made dolls, bags and accessories out of vintage and recycled fabrics will add a lovely touch around our home or environment.

It is not just about doing good though, it is also about having fun and rediscovering the joy by using a few basic materials and taking the time to craft with your children. This will further show our children that eco-friendly crafting is as simple as creating bunting out of carrier bags. Moreover, sewing and crafting come in handy and apply to all ages in our life.
